The Verb Challenge: Shedding the Superfluous for Streamlined Language

If I had to give up one word that I use regularly, it would probably be the word “superfluous”. Although this word can sometimes be useful to express excess or redundancy, it can often be replaced by more precise and evocative terms. By eliminating the unnecessary, we can make our language clearer and more concise, which can improve communication and make our messages more impactful.

Letting go of the superfluous in our language can also encourage us to think more about our words and choose expressions that are richer in meaning. It can help us expand our vocabulary and express our ideas in a more nuanced and precise way.

Ultimately, choosing to sacrifice a word that we use regularly can be an interesting exercise in refining our linguistic expression and pushing us to communicate more effectively.
